Our 14-Step Professional Scissor Sharpening Process
- Inspect each pair of scissors for damage, wear and any potential issues.
- Ultrasonically clean the scissors at 60°C for 15 minutes to remove hair, oil and debris.
- Check the blade set and cutting angle from pivot to tip before disassembly.
- Disassemble, label and place each pair of scissors in its individual work tray.
- Mark the ride line with a red marker to provide a witness line for accurate restoration.
- Restore the internal ride lines to the correct profile using our Quad Profile Linisher.
- Sharpen the cutting edges while maintaining the correct bevel or convex edge geometry.
- Carefully deburr the blades to remove fine steel fragments from the cutting edges.
- Demagnetise the blades after sharpening.
- Polish and refine the edges using diamond compound.
- Hand-finish the edges using a leather strop and French Rouge.
- Reassemble the scissors, replace worn parts where required and reset the correct blade tension.
- Clean and lubricate using our wax and alcohol-based scissor lubricant – no oil-based lubricant.
- Test cut every pair of scissors to ensure they cut perfectly from pivot to tip before returning.
