There is no single schedule, as it depends on how often they are used, coat condition and how well they are maintained. Professional groomers may need sharpening more frequently than home users. If a blade begins pulling, dragging, heating up unusually quickly or leaving an uneven finish, it may need sharpening. Scissors should be sharpened when they begin pushing or folding the hair, feel rough or require extra pressure to cut.

How do I maintain my clipper blades and scissors?

Remove hair and debris from clipper blades after every use, clean and disinfect them regularly, and apply clipper oil to all six oiling points without over-oiling. Check for heat during use and rotate your blades when necessary.

After using your scissors, remove all hair and product residue, clean them with alcohol and apply a suitable wax-based scissor lubricant. Check the tension regularly, avoid dropping them and store them safely in a protective case. Never use damaged, rusty or poorly adjusted equipment, as this can affect performance and shorten its working life.
