A good practice is to lubricate shears daily before you start cutting. Do not use oil-based lubricants. We recommend a wax and alcohol lubricant.
Open shears around 90 degrees and place a few drops of wax lubrication on either side of the pivot, open and close the shears a few times allowing the lube to rinse out the pivot area.
Wipe off any excess lube, the alcohol will evaporate and leave a protective wax coating on your shears. The action will be much smoother as a result.
Other tips
Store safely with blades closed, if dropped they usually require repairs in addition to standard sharpening.
Keep shears away from magnets, they make it easy to attract dust and various particles.
Keep the pivot area clean. Most groomers and hairdressers are not aware that oil is not recommended for shears. Oil attracts hair follicles, dust and grit and keeps it in the pivot area.
